When it Rains in Tokyo
By Sabah Merchant
When it rains in Tokyo,
And I have laundry in the balcony from the week before, I bring in the clothes And loudly wonder why I didn’t two days ago. Oh, right: it’s because I went to Ikebukuro. When it rains in Tokyo It's often gentle and soft. It’s intermittent too, Like fifth-grade music class Or my visits to the grocery shop. Yeah, those back-to-back conbini meals have to stop. When it rains in Tokyo I want to go outside and dance; But it just so happens that I washed my hair the day before, And I don’t want to change out of my worn track pants. Besides, I’m too shy to take that chance. So I’ll stay inside and watch the rain fall, At a time in my life where I'm ready to give it all; And when the rain stops And I see the final drop, I might step outside, Take in the air and light, Maybe drop by Ikebukuro And go with the flow. And maybe tomorrow, It’ll rain again in Tokyo. |
